What is the best way to adjust the water level in the tank?

The techniques vary by design among toilet fill valves. Some have water level adjustment screws at the plunger, other use sliding clips or ratchets. Bending a float rod up or down (to increase or decrease the water level) is the traditional way to make whatever slight adjustment is needed in the field. All methods are simple and positive and once set at the desired level seldom need to be re-adjusted during the service life of the fill valve.
